Plot
The film is based on Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. 'Article 15' takes inspiration from true life events, including 2014 Badaun gang rape allegations in Uttar Pradesh and 2016 Una flogging incident.
'Article 15' begins with Ayan Ranjan (Ayushmann Khurrana, 'Dream Girl', 'Andhadhun'), a highly educated police officer, receiving a new post in the village of Laalgaon, where he is seemingly welcomed by fellow officers Brahmadutt Singh (Manoj Pahwa, 'Mulk', 'Being Cyrus') and Kisan Jatav (Kumud Mishra, 'Sultan', 'Rockstar'). Ayan is shocked by the caste discrimination that rages in the village. When certain morally dubious officers attempt to cover up the gang rape and subsequent killing of a pair of girls, Ayan decides to get to the bottom of the horrific crime and bring the perpetrators to justice with the aid of his activist girlfriend, Aditi (Isha Talwar, 'Bangalore Days', 'Ranam').
'Article 15' is directed by Anubhav Sinha ('Mulk', 'Cash', 'Thappad') and was written by Sinha and Gaurav Solanki. Also joining the cast are Nassar ('Fair Game', 'Voter'), Sayani Gupta ('Fan', 'Inside Edge') and Sushil Pandey ('Jab We Met', 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai').
