An Inhabited Volcano

A documentary about the La Palma volcano. On September 19, 2021, after 50 years, a new volcano emerged on the island of La Palma. The phenomenon lasted several months, and during that time, a group of friends who had shared their lives since childhood used a common chat to exchange audio messages.

Through these digital conversations, a chronicle was built that narrated the general astonishment shared by the population in the face of the tragedy from a perspective that was closer and more everyday than what could be found in media reports. 'An Inhabited Volcano' is a collective portrait of the friendship and strength of the inhabitants of an island that, every so often, is subjected to the devastating and hypnotic power of nature.

The directors and screenwriters of this audiovisual piece are David Pantaleón and Jose Víctor Fuentes, both from the Canary Islands. Pantaleón has been directing short films since 2006, and his career includes more than 20 that have received international recognition at various festivals. Fuentes, for his part, has directed two feature films, '90 Minutes & I Love You' and 'La Luz de Mafasca.' Since 2002, he has managed the Festivalito La Palma, a pioneering competition for express filming.
