Altered States

Late 1960s. Student Eddie Jessup (played by William Hurt), known for being unconventional, bright and perhaps a little crazy, performs several experiments with an isolation chamber using himself as a test subject. The different experiences that a most strange child has and end up leaving these practices.

However, seven years later, being already a respected teacher, returning to his experiments and these take him to an unknown place using sensory deprivation, hallucinogens and various extremely potent medications. But he will not stand still, for he will try to show that there are many more states of consciousness than those we know and those we investigate even living unpleasant experiences.
