Ali & Ava

Ali (Adeel Akhtar) and Ava (Claire Rushbrook) are two people who are lonely for various reasons. So Sophia, the daughter of Ali's tenants from Slovakia, whom Ava looks after, decides to introduce them to each other. During the period of a lunar month, sparks fly and the two experience a very strong and powerful connection with each other. However, the consequences of her previous relationship and his confusion mean that theirs is not an easy road. Luckily, their mutual passion for music, which will play an essential role in the plot, will bring them even closer together.

In addition to its participation in the Seville Film Festival, the film was nominated for two BAFTA awards: Best British Film and Best Leading Actor for Adeel Akhtar, who had already won it in 2017 with 'Murdered by My Father'. Clio Barnard, who wrote and directed the film, has been up for these awards twice before, for 'The Selfish Giant' and the documentary 'The Arbor'. In addition to Akhtar and Rushbrook, the cast includes Ellora Torchia ('Midsommar') as Runa, Shaun Thomas ('Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children') as Callum, Krupa Pattani as ('Hollyoaks') Usma and Natalie Gavin ('Line of Duty') as Dawn.
