Plot
In 'Aftersun', written and directed by Charlotte Wells, in a bad holiday resort in the late 1990s, 11-year-old Sophie (Frankie Corio) spends time with her loving and idealistic father, Calum. (Paul Mescal). As Sophie's grows, Calum's desire for a life outside of parenthood also grows. Twenty years later, Sophie's good memories of her last vacation become a powerful and heartbreaking portrait of their relationship as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she never knew.
The film has recently received five Independent Spirit Awards nominations and sixteen British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). 'Aftersun' had its national premiere at the Seville Festival, where, in addition to being well received by the public and critics, it received the award for best film in the "Las Nuevas Olas" section. Previously, the film was presented worldwide at the Critics' Week of the Cannes Film Festival where it was awarded the French Touch of the Jury. It also received awards at other international festivals, such as the Grand Jury Prize at the Deauville Festival, and awards at the Munich and Sarajevo festivals.
Aftersun, Charlotte Wells' debut directing a feature film,
takes place in the 1990s and is inspired by Charlotte Wells' relationship with her father.
