Plot

This documentary follows Andrés Roca Rey, a 28-year-old active bullfighter. Through the experiences of the Peruvian, the piece documents the relationship between the bull and the matador and his intimate process in which he decides and assumes that he must face the animal as a personal duty towards the profession and tradition, in addition to being an aesthetic challenge. Thus, the work narrates how human material violence is constructed against the inherent brutality of a wild animal.

'Tardes de soledad' is the first pure documentary directed by Albert Serra ('Pacifiction'), who managed to take home the Golden Shell at the 72nd edition of the San Sebastián Festival for best film. The filmmaker himself has acknowledged how controversial the topic is, but he chose to ignore it: "I find it ridiculous to focus a work of art based on the subject it addresses. The work of art exists on its own. I try to maintain a pure and innocent perspective."
