Plot
In 1948, when Stalin gets his hands on Poland, the famous Polish painter Wladyslaw Strzeminski will refuse to turn his art into a tool for the communist regime's propaganda. He will not join the movement of social realism, reclaiming his right to create avant-garde art. For this he will be prosecuted and kicked out of his job as a university teacher. His art works will also be taken off any of the museums he was previously in, eliminating his record as an artist. With some help from his university students, he will begin a fight against the oppressing regime and will become a symbol for the artists' resistance against the intellectual tyranny crushing them.
The movie is a biopic about the life of the Polish artist and is directed by Polish director Andrzej Wajda.
