Plot
'Afire' is a dramedy by German director Christian Petzold, which has won the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival and has been selected for the San Sebastian Festival.
The film revolves around four young people who do not know each other but, for various reasons, will share the same summer house by the beach. Leon is one of the young men; he is a conceited writer who finds himself stuck in his latest work and decides to go on vacation with his friend Felix, who has a completely opposite personality. On the other hand, there is Devid, the lifeguard, and the young Nadja. Nadja was already at the house when the other young people arrived, a mysterious girl who spends her days on her bicycle. Nadja awakens both desire and anger in the protagonist Leon at the same time.
Petzold admits that the protagonist of the film reminds him a lot of himself, a solitary author who hides his insecurities and frustration through sarcasm and arrogance. In the film, a fire in the forest threatens the group of young people, and Leon must put himself to the test and discover if he is capable of caring about something other than himself.
The film stars Tim Schubert as Leon, Langston Uibel as Felix, Enno Trebs as the lifeguard Devid, and Paula Beer as the enigmatic Nadja.
