Plot
'Affluenza' is an American movie directed by Kevin Asch and written by Antonio Macia. It is a teen drama loosely based on the story of 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald, published in 1925. The films stars Gregg Sulkin, Nicola Peltz and Grant Gustin, and it also is the firs leading role for Ben Rosenfield.
The film is set during the Great Recession of 2009 and follows Fisher Miller (Rosenfield), a young photography student who moves with his uncles to a rich neighborhood in Long Island, New York Cirty, where he starts to surround himself of the elites of the city. With the help o a marihuana stash he succeeds to enter his cousin Kate's circle of friends.
This is how Fisher befriends the stepson of the richest man in the community, Dylan Carson (Sulkin), an insecure young man who uses all the money he has to gain the acceptance of others. Carson was also dating Kate, and he wants to gain her back. However, Kate is now with another rich kid, Todd (Gustin). Fisher encircles himself in a love triangle about to crash down, as are all the lives of our characters because of the stock crashing.
'Affluenza' had a limited theatrical release before being available on video on demand, mainly because the critics destroyed the film, arguing the shallowness in which important topics are treated.
