Plot
L is a young Hindu university student who writes daily letters to her lover, who lives thousands of kilometers away from her home. They both love each other, but for different reasons, they cannot be together, whether due to family or political issues. L's country is unstable, a consequence of a major political crisis. Thousands of protesters constantly go to the streets to complain about it.
L tells her partner that she is editing a film that she has shot with Himu, an acquaintance of hers. That is why she hasn't been able to write to him for several days, as, although they perfectly understand each other, they do not know what kind of footage they have recorded. What they do know is that it is about a woman who is experiencing an existential crisis. L jokes that it could easily be about her.
'A Night of Knowing Nothing' is a documentary film directed by Payal Kapadia, who presents in this work an essay about the political situation of her surroundings along with a harsh critique of the educational system in the area. Although the film premiered in France in April 2022, the title first hit theaters during the Directors' Fortnight at the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival. 'A Night of Knowing Nothing' arrives in Spain on January 31, brought by Atalante Films.
