Plot
Directed by Arantza Santesteban, '918 Nights' is a documentary film based on real events, specifically, in a key period in the life of the director: her experience in prison. Fifteen years ago, on October 4, 2001, Arantza Santesteban was arrested and imprisoned. The director keeps some memories of that season: the endless laps around the prison yard, the swimming championships in which she participated during her stay, Rasha's prison journey, and a long list of moments remembered by Santesteban. The director spends 918 nights locked up in that prison, the time that gives her new production's name. When Arantza is released, she records all her memories and doubts about her on a tape recorder, managing with this method to resolve all her doubts little by little. '918 gau' tells us about the clearing up of all those unknowns, because throughout the film we see how the director's memories and doubts unfold, as if she had a broken memory due to the impact of the event.
'918 gau' has collected different awards, including the Best Documentary Film Award at the Torino Film Festival, the City of Lisbon Award for Best Film in the International Competition section of the Doclisboa Film Festival and the Latexos Award in the Novos Cinemas Festival of Pontevedra.
