BAFTA Awards 2020

Year: 2020

The edition number 73 of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts introduces a few big changes. First of all, TV presenter Graham Norton has been chosen as host for the gala. It has also been introduced a new awards category: Best casting.

'Joker' starts the race as favourite with eleven nominations, followed by 'The Irishman' and 'Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood' with ten, and '1917' with nine. The nominations have arisen some controversy because there are zero nominees of colour in the four main acting categories. This matter has made quite a conversation in social networks, sparking the hashtag #BAFTAsSoWhite, remembering the same controversy the Oscars had a few years ago. The organization has tried to compensate it nominating three people of colour in the Rising Star category.

The BAFTAs 2020 gala will take place on February 2nd at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy as the main star, being chosen as the winner of the BAFTA Fellowship award.
